Synopsis:
In a near-future world grappling with ecological anxieties, a radical animal rights group's actions inadvertently create a being caught between two worlds. Charlie is a "humanzee," a child born from a chimpanzee mother rescued from a research facility and raised by human foster parents. As he approaches adolescence, the family decides it's time for him to integrate into mainstream society with the start of high school.
This transition is complicated by the escalating extremism of the Animal Liberation Alliance, who now view Charlie as a symbol and a potential weapon in their increasingly dangerous campaign. The series explores themes of identity, belonging, and the ethical implications of radical activism through the lens of a young man navigating prejudice and purpose. It depicts a world where the lines between human and animal are blurred, prompting reflection on humanity’s relationship with nature and its consequences.
