Synopsis:

Hideo Ozu, an editor working in the adult film industry, finds his aspirations of filmmaking derailed by a painful rejection from his childhood friend and former confidante, Mai Kurosawa, now an aspiring actress. His life takes an unexpected turn after a chance encounter with Sara, a Cyberdoll, leading him to a peculiar encounter with three androids remarkably resembling Mai at different stages of her life. When Mai announces a planned biography video utilizing Hideo's past work, he sees an opportunity to reignite his directorial ambitions. The series explores themes of identity, memory, and the blurred lines between reality and simulation as Hideo navigates this strange new world with his uncanny companions, grappling with ethical questions surrounding artificiality and artistic expression. The narrative unfolds within a subtly unsettling atmosphere, questioning the nature of connection and the potential for second chances in a technologically advanced society.

Hand Maid Mai Although 3 OVAs were produced, only one was made availlable before the production company went bankrupt, and the ones who took over the title have not released the remaining 2 OAVs of this spin off from Hand Maid May. The first and only availlable episode is quite nice in its animation style and art, and it is way more ecchi than its parent series. The episode was funny to watch and beautiful to the eyes, so it is a real pitty the remainder episodes are still held back from releasing, although word from the present owners of this title did say they would release thefull OAVs in time. As it is already a long time sice that, we cannot be sure if those words will be coming true or not, but one can hope.nnI am surelly waiting to see the whole of Hand Maid Mai released.

The only watchable episode previewed a horny series with humor, an MC easy to cheer for, an intriguing concept of a futuristic organization sending androids into the past to solve seemingly trivial problems of a common person, and the timeless main conflict between the MC and the likely love interest. The OVA's animation isn't mind-blowing but character designs are distinct enough, the facial expressions can be goofy enough to be comedic, and the show does a great job portraying the lifeless eyes of the cyberdolls. All of this is for naught though as there's only one episode. I wouldn't expect anything life-changing but I wouldhave definitely watched this series if it were available
