Synopsis:
In the vibrant city of Syracuse, a young man named Melos finds his plans for a sister’s wedding disrupted by unforeseen circumstances. A chance encounter with a skilled sculptor blossoms into an unexpected friendship, quickly overshadowed when Melos is wrongly accused and sentenced to death by the suspicious King. Driven by a profound desire to attend his sister’s wedding, Melos petitions for a temporary reprieve, offering a guarantee he desperately hopes to fulfill. The King, unconvinced of Melos’ sincerity, proposes a challenging test: securing a willing substitute to take his place should he fail to return. This proposition leads to an unlikely alliance with the sculptor, setting in motion a series of events that explore themes of trust, loyalty, and the weight of promises within a richly detailed historical setting.
