Synopsis:

In the summer of 1983, newcomer Keiichi Maebara finds himself drawn into the close-knit community of Hinamizawa. His burgeoning friendships with Rena, Mion, Satoko, and Rika are shadowed by an unsettling atmosphere of tradition and unspoken history. As the village prepares for its annual festival, local legends and disturbing rumors begin to surface, hinting at a darker past linked to the town's deity.

Keiichi’s attempts to uncover the truth behind disappearances and unsettling events are met with evasion from his friends, deepening a growing sense of unease. The narrative unfolds through cyclical storytelling, revealing layers of paranoia and psychological tension as Keiichi grapples with the potential for hidden motives and fractured realities within his seemingly idyllic surroundings. The anime explores themes of trust, memory, and the corrosive power of secrets in a small, isolated community.
