Synopsis:
Set in a future where rising sea levels have reshaped the planet into a world of expansive oceans and scattered islands, the series follows Maia Mizuki, a determined 15-year-old striving for a future with the Ocean Agency. Her aspirations are abruptly derailed when she unexpectedly fails her entrance exams and experiences a series of unfortunate events, leaving her adrift. Seeking refuge, Maia finds herself drawn into the unconventional world of Nereids, a help-for-hire organization run by a group of enigmatic women.
Through a variety of assignments – ranging from apprehending criminals to more unusual tasks – Maia navigates this watery landscape, forging unexpected bonds with her new companions. As the narrative progresses, a significant subplot involving something called "Daphne" begins to unfold, revealing deeper layers to the world and Maia's place within it. The series explores themes of resilience, belonging, and finding purpose in an altered world shaped by environmental change.
