Synopsis:

Momosuke Yamaoka, a writer seeking to revitalize his career, journeys across Edo-period Japan collecting ghost stories. His pursuit leads him into remote mountain regions where he encounters Mataichi, a mysterious monk and his companions engaged in a clandestine mission. Witnessing a brutal act, Momosuke discovers Mataichi's group acts as vigilantes, delivering harsh justice to those deemed guilty of supernatural transgressions.

As Momosuke continues his quest for tales, he becomes repeatedly entangled with Mataichi’s group, drawn deeper into their world. The narrative explores the blurred lines between justice and vengeance, and challenges perceptions of humanity in the face of the unknown. The series presents a contemplative atmosphere, examining moral ambiguity alongside folkloric elements within a historical setting.
