Now I wasn’t going to be expecting too much from a series of chibi, 3D-animated shorts, but Nijiyon Animation is very skippable. Animation-wise, it doesn’t get too much mileage out of the 3D models, I really feel like they could have gone 2D chibi and not used any more resources – except maybe the Fall Guys episode which was a snoozefest like most of them. We can see here one of the reasons why Love Live fans are resistant whenever one of the generations expands their cast: when every character is forced to have an appearance and say their bit, every situation and line starts tofeel very samey and predictable - especially when doing just that takes up half the runtime of every episode! [I actually wrote this before the most recent Liella reveal] It gets better in the second half, but the overall writing leaves an impression that it is very basic and simple, and not in an endearing way. There are maybe one or two decent jokes, but it’s lacking all of the things that I loved in the main show. The Nijiyon “series” on Love Live’s Youtube channel is far funnier and more interesting - I would check that out instead.

As someone who stumbled upon this series with zero previous knowledge of what Love Live! is the highest praise that I can give this show is that it convinced me to watch the parent story for it, and what more can you ask for from a series of simple shorts such as this? Despite the little time I got to spend with these characters they all have distinct enough personalities and designs that I can easily tell apart and recognize for their quirks and behaviours. It's overall a very wholesome series of sketches in an endearing artstyle that I personally enjoyed! Overall it's a good, lighthearted fun time. I'm sure if you already know these characters you'd certainly enjoy it, but even someone such as myself, who had no idea who they were before coming across this mini series is capable of enjoying the short and wholesome interactions, as well as the lighthearted plots that this show wil take you through!

*Nijiyon Animation provided an adorable display of the hilarious relationships the girls have together. Each episode captures a new perspective of the idols and brings the viewer closer to the characters. Most episodes felt heartwarming and are a beautiful glimpse on what the series is about. *Cute 3d chibi idols, very charming and smooth compared to other cgi. The animation changes style and dimensions to express shifts in mood and tone.(so cool) *The show runs through short, minor, mainly comedic scenes, of the idol's lives together. A basic understanding of each idols personality are shown along with the relationships between them. *Overall the show is cute and enjoyable,it can be finished quickly, and provides a boost in mood and a good glimpse into the series.
