Synopsis:
Decades after a cataclysmic event transformed Japan into a desolate expanse of sand, a pervasive affliction known as "rusting" threatens the few remaining settlements. The official narrative blames the spread of mutated fungi orchestrated by the enigmatic Bisco Akaboshi, dubbed the “Man-Eating Mushroom.” However, Bisco claims a different truth: he is a protector of these unusual fungi, driven to find the legendary Sabikui mushroom, believed to hold the key to curing the rusting plague.
He travels with Akutagawa, a colossal crab companion, and Dr. Milo Nekoyanagi, a physician desperate for a cure for his sister’s illness. Facing suspicion and fear from those who perceive him as a harbinger of destruction, Bisco persists in his search, navigating a world grappling with ecological collapse and societal breakdown. The series explores themes of environmental responsibility, prejudice, and the lengths individuals will go to combat despair in a dying world.
