Synopsis:

In the realm of Asgar, an unlikely pair finds themselves entangled in political intrigue. A gentle, herbivorous dragon, misunderstood and often framed for events beyond his control, journeys alongside Reiko, a girl possessing unusual abilities. Their arrival coincides with a growing conspiracy that casts the dragon as a villain. Driven by a desire for peace, he repeatedly finds himself burdened with a false reputation, compelling him to confront escalating challenges. The series explores themes of perception versus reality, and the burden of responsibility when one is wrongly accused. It presents a nuanced narrative centered on an unexpected partnership navigating a complex world, where peaceful intentions are constantly tested by external forces and mistaken identities.

This review reflects on both season one and two. We'll start with a small plot here. Who ever has heard of a dragon who only eats vegetables and other non-animal, meatless foods? I sure have not. This Herbivore Dragon, is also very weak and can even get beat up by a bunny. But let's not talk about that. This series is all about traveling and meeting new people, also beat them up. But it's not this kind loving dragon who does that, no, it's his new, self acclaimed disciple, Reiko, who happens to somehow get the calamity kind of like powers our kind dragon should have. Firstseason for me was very enjoyable with a lot of humor and funny moments. This second season however, focused more on the story and had more dramatic feel to it. Also a lot more action packed which might suit others who didn't care much for season one. Since if season one wasn't that good or funny to you, then this second season might do justice.nnAudio and animation;nWatching this series with Chinese audio, it felt kind of weird. But it was funny either way. I highly recommend you to try it.nI enjoyed the animation. Smooth running and well animated. Our friendly dragons walking did seem funny.nIf there was, I for sure didn't notice any 3D or CGI. Even if there actually might have been some. The magic flowing through the screen were something that looked cool in a dark room.nnOverall, this short twelve minute per episode series does not waste much of your time. I for sure though first that twelve minutes was too little in the first season but almost too long here in this second one. The story seems to be going further so hopefully we'll nsee even a third season. I'll be sure to tune in if I notice it arriving.nnScore wise, since I really enjoyed the first season but the second season was a little too action packed and did not have a lot of comedy. I'd give this one a very generous 7/10 score with the first and second season combined Since I gave the first season an 8/10 and this one 6/10.nFriendly reminder, this is my first ever review, please forgive me for typos etc and thank you for reading.

A Herbivorous Dragon of 5000 Years Gets Unfairly Villainized season 2 marks the return of one of my favorite Chinese productions, and since I am the only person I’ve ever seen talk about it I feel the need to promote it as much as I can because this show is pretty cool. Outside of Gintama, I can’t remember the last anime that got me to consistently laugh this much, with the dragon’s attempts at maintaining his false identity as an all-powerful monster reaching new levels of absurdity, and Reiko’s blind devotion combined with her short temper and overpowered abilities made her a hilarious counterpart tosaid dragon. I also ended up way more invested in the royal family struggle between Rosetta and Vanessa than I was expecting, with the latter’s well-meaning, yet ignorant gestures towards the former making for a compelling and dramatic rivalry.nAside from the gags, it's also got an incredible sense for good action sequences, some of which were honestly better than a lot of the more action-centric stuff I watched this year in terms of flashiness and impact, lending to an incredibly well-rounded viewing experience. After a parade of mediocre “sure I guess I’ll finish this one” shows, the ease with which I was able to fully settle into this series and get into the groove of binging it reminded me what a good show is supposed to feel like, and with each episode being only 13 minutes long, you can easily breeze through this one in an evening and be left wanting even more screen time from these lovable goofballs.
