Synopsis:
Set in post-World War II Japan, this series explores a poignant chapter of history centered around the remaining elephants at Higashiyama Zoo in Nagoya. Facing dwindling resources and a changing world, the zoo's two elephants become symbols of resilience and a connection to a bygone era. The narrative follows the journeys of children traveling to the zoo via specially organized "Elephant Trains"—a unique initiative offering them a glimpse into a world that was almost lost.
The series delicately portrays the emotional landscape surrounding these gentle giants, highlighting themes of remembrance, loss, and the enduring power of human-animal bonds. Through the children’s experiences, it offers a quiet reflection on a time of rebuilding and the importance of preserving cultural heritage amidst societal shifts. It presents a thoughtful examination of how communities sought to maintain connections with the past in the face of adversity.
